What interest for tourists is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord

The most important factor that attracts tourists to this object of architectural art is the uniqueness of the structure. This church is built of wood and without a single nail.

It was built in 1714. This building, 37 meters high, has a peculiar appearance. Numerous onion-like domes make it fabulous. Finding themselves next to the church, it seems to everyone that they were transported into the distant past.

Here you can see with your own eyes how Russian masters of carpentry were able to build from wood, wielding only an ax. This is truly impressive and inspires respect for the builders. Unfortunately, no one knows their names, and will never know (apparently). Although all visitors to this architectural ensemble (besides the church, there are other wooden buildings here) are told about a certain carpenter Nestor. Allegedly, he built this church. Then he threw the ax into the lake in order to bury the secret of the construction of this masterpiece of wooden architecture.

But this is just a legend that tourists like.

The building itself, from a bird’s eye view, resembles a cross. This gives the building an even greater effect of significance to faith in God.

The architectural monument is included in the UNESCO list, which confirms its exclusivity and significance for humanity. There is a museum here, opened in 1966.

Restoration

Tourists, of course, are not told in detail that this unique structure needs emergency help. The church is being destroyed, and the restorers have been thinking for a long time how to save the monument.

It turns out that big mistakes were made during the construction, which now threaten to deprive us of this amazing structure. Such a miscalculation was logical, since in those days they often built wooden houses without a foundation. The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord does not have it either (instead of it, only a stone “tape”). And since the weight of the structure is large and the ground under it has already been touched (graves), the building has sunk and now rests only on the “word of honor”. The entrance to the temple has been closed for a long time.

In addition, not many people know that the church was originally sheathed on the outside. But the casing was removed to show the tourists the log house itself. This, in turn, caused rapid deterioration of the logs, as a result of exposure to sunlight and direct moisture.

At the moment, active work is underway to save the church, and I would like to hope that this work will not stop again.
