Payment options for services and goods in China

The official currency in China is the yuan. Now one yuan costs about 9 rubles. The exchange offices of China’s international airports accept different currencies, while banks accept only dollars and euros.

The branches close at 18:00 and do not work on Sundays, so I advise you to exchange some money for yuan in advance in Russia or at the airport.

To exchange money in a bank, you need a passport. Get ready to spend at least half an hour on a visit: employees take a long time to review foreign documents, make copies of pages with a visa and a photo, print out a stack of papers and give them for signature.

There are a lot of ATMs in China, but not all of them will be able to withdraw money from a foreign card. Look for the sticker of the Visa and Mastercard payment systems. It will not be possible to withdraw cash from ATMs connected to the Chinese Union-Pay payment system.

Foreign bank cards are not accepted everywhere: the state in China has established strict supervision over foreign exchange transactions. If you don’t want to worry every time whether the payment will pass, pay in cash.
